Some of London’s youngest and brightest gathered at Museum London on Thursday evening (Aug.11) for the annual general meeting and GenMixer of Emerging Leaders — an incorporated non-profit group designed to get the next generation of London leaders involved in the community.
“We are trying to engage and keep people that are 22-44 in the city and to try and help the city keep the talent that it is going to need in the future,” said incoming chair Scott Courtice.
Both the Trillium Foundation and City of London have come onboard as funding partners allowing the group to hire a dedicated staff member.
They have also launched a professional development program and are in the process of starting advocacy work designed to try and find ways of making London more attractive to young professionals.
An official paid membership drive was kicked-off three weeks ago and over 150 members have signed up so far.
At Thursday night’s gathering, those members in attendance also had the opportunity to review the draft of a strategic action plan formulated by the group.
Commenting on how the city’s current old guard recognizes future success lays with retaining youth, Courtice said everyone from the mayor, business community and educational institutions have “been fantastic.”
The organization’s objectives heading into the next year are straightforward.
In addition to helping the city to figure out how to attract and retain young professionals, Courtice said, “We plan to engage and grow the membership so we can represent a more diverse group of people within the young professionals of the city.”
