Emerging Leaders is thrilled to announce that Kevin Van Lierop is our new, full-time Community Energizer. You are likely familiar with Kevin as a community or culture creator in London. His ongoing passion is to express himself in creative, innovative and inclusive ways that influence, engage and build diverse communities within the Forest City.
It is not often that you find someone so committed to creating community change as Kevin is. Moreover, it is even rarer to find someone committed to making that change through entirely unique, imaginative means, often through the pure force of will. Kevin’s work, such as PARK(ing) Day London, is characterized by its creativity and ability to engage people in new ways, inspiring them to take initiative to improve their own communities.
With insightfulness and an ability to think unconventionally, often at the ‘edge of the box’, Kevin has been able to create distinctive moments that are filled with creativity, passion and energy that organize and move people on a grass roots level. Take the London Photo Walk for example, which was created around a passion not only for photography but for the city of London. Since its inception, almost three years ago, the London Photo Walk has become a community driven way to celebrate the city, bringing together diverse demographics from a larger region and has opened many eyes to the beauty and potential within the Forest City.
Born and raised in London, Kevin has been educated in a combination of disciplines which has inspired him to create and contribute to many community initiatives. From heritage studies, to urban planning and education, Kevin has a strong connection to the University of Western Ontario, King’s University College and Fanshawe College.
Prior to coming on board with Emerging Leaders London as our Community Energizer, Kevin worked both as a Research Associate and Faculty Member at the University of Western Ontario and Fanshawe College. More recently, Kevin started his own business, The MugShot Lounge dedicated to creating unique, relaxed and engaging photographic experiences at events across the region.
Kevin is rarely seen without a camera in his hand, a smile on his face and celebrating the hidden beauty of London through imagery. He seems to have a boundless source of energy and a “can do” attitude that’s backed up by creativity and intelligence. Best of all, Kevin’s in London to stay, engage, and act.
