ReForest London recruiting new volunteers

ReForest London Volunteer Opportunities
ReForest London engages individuals, groups and businesses in planting and caring for trees in neighbourhoods and natural areas throughout London. TReForest London Goals:

Empowerment – Empower community groups, businesses, and individuals to plant and care for trees
Ecosystem Health – Improve London’s environmental health through planting trees and shrubs in natural areas, parks, yards and along streets.
Education – Educate Londoners about the importance of trees and how to plant and care for them.

Since 2005, ReForest London has planted more than 17,000 native trees and shrubs in 130 projects throughout London. We rely on strong community and governmental partnerships and the support of over 12,000 volunteers to support our efforts to keep the “forest” in the Forest City.

If you like to write and take digital photos, we have a job for you. We are seeking individuals to attend our tree planting events and write stories about the details of the event, interviewing volunteers and recognizing donors. We also like to use photos to record our events. Once the stories are written and the photos chosen, you will enter them onto the Success Stories area of our website.

Time commitment: 2-3 hours at the event, plus time to write, edit and upload stories and photos
Volunteer Coordinator

Volunteers are the backbone of ReForest London. We need someone to help us develop programs and campaigns to recruit, train, engage and recognize our volunteers. You will be developing ways to track volunteer names and interest, as well as new ways to ensure our volunteers keep coming back to help.

Time commitment: 10 hours per month

Amazing Tree Quest Committee Member

The Amazing Tree Quest is a city-wide contest to celebrate the important role that trees play in our lives. First launched in 2009, the contest received a lot of media attention and participation from the community. We running the contest again during the spring and summer of 2010, followed by an awards ceremony in the fall. Members of the committee will help with promotion and event planning.

Time commitment: May-September 2010, 1-2 meetings per month plus individual work

Fundraising Committee Member

Work within our grass roots or corporate fundraising committees to develop and implement new campaigns, identify new sources of funding, and strengthen the relationships with our existing supporters.

Time commitment: 4-6 meetings throughout the year, plus individual work

Marketing Committee Member

If your skills lie in communications and marketing, we’d love your help in promoting our vision of a well-treed, healthy community to Londoners and beyond. The marketing committee develops campaigns to promote our activities, supports our website and annual report, and seeks news ways to engage Londoners with ReForest London.

Time commitment: 4-6 meetings throughout the year, plus individual work

Finance and Audit Committee Member

ReForest London’s Finance and Audit Committee ensures that our funds are spent according to donor wishes, that our financial policies ensure security of our funds, and continuously seeks to improve our financial management. The committee makes recommendations to the board about budgeting, asset management, financial management, audits, internal controls, and risk management.

Time commitment: 4-6 meetings throughout the year, plus individual work

Technical Review Team Member

The Technical Review Team consists of experts and members of the community to optimize proposed ReForest London projects, especially regarding design, placement, timing and implementation. The group recommends to the Board the criteria for choosing of ReForest London projects, assists in building partnerships between ReForest London and other organizations, and assist in the review and evaluation of ReForest London projects.

Time commitment: 4 meetings throughout the year, plus individual work

Governance and Nominating Committee Member

The Governance and Nominating committee works to ensure that ReForest London’s fulfills its legal, ethical, and functional responsibilities through adequate governance policy development, recruitment strategies, training programs, monitoring of board activities, and evaluation of board members’ performance.

Time commitment: 4 meetings throughout the year, plus individual work.
